What is KontraChess?

• Kontra Chess is speed chess with an in-game tactical betting mechanism (the kontra button) that can be used to increase the pressure on an opponent
• Each player places an initial stake and then, if they feel they have the upper hand, can ‘Kontra’ their opponent- effectively asking their opponent play on for  double the stakes, or resign
• If a player accepts ‘Kontra’ they then hold the button and can keep it until the game plays out or ‘re-Kontra’ at any time, asking for the stakes to double again
• If you are holding the button, a win or a draw is enough to secure the spoils

What are coins for and how can i get more?

• Currently coins are just a fun way to play chess for something more than rating points. Earning them takes a certain skill, and using the kontra betting system to win them is a fundamental part of the thrill of our brand of chess
• Soon, coins will acquire more value when we introduce our tournament system where coins will serve as entry-fees for sit-n-go style chess tournaments with the biggest ones having cash or real-world prizes. They will also be used to by virtual goods from our store, such as new piece sets, board colors, Kontra buttons, “gifts,” and other items
• You receive coins upon registration and then get topped up daily for returning to the platform. You can also send a request for more coins during BETA via our support page

How can I report abuse?

• You can report abuse via our support page. Please provide the details of match and rationale on how/why you felt abuse or cheating.

Explanation of fair play
Certain behaviour is not ALLOWED OR TOLERATED:

• Bullying or abusive behavior
• Cheating of any kind
• Creation of multiple accounts 

Kontra Chess DOES NOT ALLOW the use of engine assistance in games. DO NOT attempt to use chess programs to beat your opponents. Kontra Chess uses all available resources to detect cheating on our site. We are working to improve cheat detection in online chess, and are committed to being the safest place to play chess online.
 

How does KC calculate my ELO rating?

• We are using the standard calculations. If you would like to know more in-depth about that, see the official page for the calculation here:

Supported browsers for KC:

• We highly recommend playing KontraChess on desktop using Chrome. As we are in Beta we don’t have full support for Apple’s Safari, for Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge
• Playing KontraChess on a mobile is not recommended yet.

How to report bugs or suggest improvements?

• If you are experiencing any problems playing KontraChess please head over to the Support page and get in touch with us via e-mail or via our live chat support!
• Please keep in mind that KontraChess is in a beta stage at the moment, which means that bugs, issues can occur but we are working tirelessly to solve them. We would like to ask for your patience and really appreciate every feedback that you send our way!
